Morning Reflection: Mercy Woke Up With Me

A Devotional for the Edison Neighborhood, the Northside, and the Greater Kalamazoo Community
There’s something powerful about waking up in Kalamazoo — whether you’re in the Edison Neighborhood near Portage Street, on the Northside by Paterson, or anywhere across our city — and realizing that God’s mercy met you before the sun did.
This morning, as I sat with Lamentations 3:22, one line rose off the page and settled right into my heart:
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.”
That truth alone gives me all the motivation I need to face this day.
Because whatever the enemy had planned for me last night…
Whatever discouragement tried to settle in…
Whatever danger tried to creep near my home or yours…
God had another plan.
Mercy stood guard over Edison.
Mercy watched over the Northside.
Mercy covered Kalamazoo while we slept.
When I opened my eyes this morning, I knew one thing for sure:
Mercy woke up with me.
That changes how I walk through this day. And it can change how you walk through your day too.
Yes, challenges will come. Yes, life will test you. But before you set foot out of your home — whether it’s on Collins Street, Washington Avenue, Burdick, North Rose, or any corner of our city — mercy already beat you to the door.
Mercy said,
“Not today — you belong to Me.”
So I’m stepping into this day grateful, focused, and encouraged. God gave me another breath, another opportunity, another blessing — and because of His faithfulness, I’m not letting anyone or anything steal my joy.
Mercy woke up with me — and that’s all the motivation I need.
