Church Near Me: Faith Is My Currency at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church

Faith Is the Currency of the Kingdom (Hebrews 11:6) | Pastor Steven T. Morrow

Faith Is the Currency of the Kingdom

Scripture Focus: Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

Authored by: Pastor Steven T. Morrow

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Key Thought: “Faith is the currency of the Kingdom. Without it, you can’t make spiritual transactions. But with it, you gain access to God’s grace, walk in obedience, and receive His reward.”

A Quiet Truth We Can’t Ignore

There are some truths in Scripture that don’t just inform you—they sit you down. Hebrews 11:6 is one of those verses. It doesn’t suggest faith. It doesn’t recommend faith. It says, without faith, it is impossible to please God.

In the Kingdom, faith isn’t decoration—it’s the access point.

Before Verse 6, Walk Through the Front Door

Hebrews 11 is often called the Hall of Faith, but it’s more than a history lesson—it’s a testimony archive. These are people who didn’t just believe about God; they believed in God to the point that it transformed how they lived.

  • Hebrews 11:1 teaches faith is substance and evidence—confidence when you can’t see it yet.
  • Hebrews 11:2 says the elders obtained a “good report”—heaven had receipts on their lives.
  • Hebrews 11:3 reminds us creation was framed by God’s Word—we weren’t there, but we believe.
  • Hebrews 11:4–5 shows Abel offering by faith and Enoch walking by faith—not perfect, but faith-filled.

Then verse 6 hits us with the contrast: if they lived by faith, then we cannot live without it.

“Faith Bag” Talk… But Make It Spiritual

In our culture people say, “He got the bag,” meaning he’s got money, resources, access. But Hebrews 11 teaches a deeper truth: the real “bag” is faith.

Devotional Question: What’s in your spiritual wallet today?

Life Wisdom: Being broke is a condition. But being poor is a mindset.

You can be spiritually “broke” for a season—tired, worn down, fighting through. But being spiritually “poor” is when you stop believing and accept unbelief as your identity.

Three Devotional Anchors From Hebrews 11:6

1) Faith Is Required: Without It, There’s No Access

The verse doesn’t say it’s hard to please God without faith. It says it’s impossible. You can’t please God just because you’re moral, knowledgeable, or nice. Those things may be good—but they are not faith.

Faith is what connects the soul to God. In the Kingdom, faith is the consideration that activates the covenant—like the signature that makes the agreement binding.

  • Faith signs the contract.
  • Faith agrees to God’s terms.
  • Faith opens the door to what God promised.

2) “Must” Is Your Spiritual ID

Hebrews 11:6 says, “He that cometh to God must believe that He is…” That word must matters. Belief isn’t casual—it’s covenantal. It’s not “when I feel like it.”

When life tests your belief and pressure puts a bill on your peace, counterfeit faith won’t hold up. But when your faith has a must in it, you can say: “Faith is my currency… and I’ve got the bag.”

3) Faith Brings Reward: God Responds to Pursuit

God is not just real—He is a rewarder. And He rewards those who diligently seek Him: not halfway, not occasionally, but with sincere pursuit.

Sometimes God rewards with provision, but He always rewards with what matters most: peace, strength, direction, endurance, clarity, and His presence.

Reflection: Are you diligently seeking… or just occasionally browsing?

A Simple Faith Check for Today

If faith is the currency of the Kingdom, what have you been trying to buy with worry, control, or sheer willpower? Maybe today is the day you make a deposit again—not perfect faith, not big faith, just real faith.

A Prayer You Can Pray Today

Lord, I come to You in honesty. Strengthen my faith where it is weak. Renew my mind where I’ve slipped into unbelief. Teach me to seek You diligently—not casually. I believe that You are, and I believe that You reward those who pursue You. Help me live like faith is my currency. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

One Action Step

  1. Read Hebrews 11:1–6 slowly.
  2. Write one sentence: “God, I believe You are…” and finish it honestly.
  3. Ask God for one clear obedience step—and do it.
